This Fall and Winter Shree Yoga will offer the first of a three-part Yoga Immersion. This is an opportunity to immerse yourself in the unique heart, soul and essence of Anusara Yoga. Part one is spread out over the course of 6 classes and 33 hours, so you'll have plenty of time to process what you're learning.

What exactly is an Anusara Immersion?
This is an in-depth program designed to explore the principles and philosophy of yoga in an organized and cohesive way. The structure of the immersion provides a solid foundation for diving deeper into your practice and understanding of Anusara Yoga, and creates an opening that can profoundly transform both your practice and your life.

In the Immersion we will explore:

  • The Universal Principles of Alignment
  • Yoga Philosophy
  • Level I Syllabus of Yoga Poses
  • Breathing Techniques a.k.a. Pranayama
  • Meditation
  • Journaling
  • Anatomy

Who can benefit from taking an Immersion?
The Immersion is for students of all levels who wish to take their practice and understanding of yoga to the next level. It is a prerequisite for those who plan to take the Anusara Teacher training. It is also appropriate for teachers of other yoga styles who want to deepen their understanding of the Anusara Yoga system.

How many classes will I attend?
This is a three-part course, with a total of 100 hours of study. At this time, we are offering part one - 33 hours of study over six Sunday afternoons.

What will happen in each class?
Each class will include a balanced mix of asana and discussion. Together we will delve deeper into the alignment principles behind the practice of level I yoga poses. We will also meditate, do pranayama, and journal our way to optimal alignment. So don't worry, you won't be doing six hours of yoga! In addition, every class will include a break for snack and regrouping. Overall, you can expect to be pleasantly engaged physically, mentally and emotionally.

How can I prepare?
We will be using the Anusara Yoga Master Immersion Manual. It can but purchased for $12. A link will be sent to you at the beginning of September from which you can pay for and download this manual as a PDF. Please place it in a binder.

Prepare for our first class by reading:

  • Overview of Anusara Yoga Methodology and Philosophy, pages 1-4
  • The Physical Body (Optimal Blueprint and Physical Structure), pages 19 and 20
  • Focal Points, page 26
  • Universal Principles, pages 27-30
  • Principles of the Breath, page 34

Optional but recommended: the Teacher Training Manual by John Friend and the Anatomy of Movement by Blandine Calais-Germain. The Teacher Training Manual is available for purchase only from www.anusara.com. Anatomy of Movement is widely available.
